Postponed Regulations on HFSS Food Adverts & Deals

At ABL Health, we strive to empower individuals in making informed food choices that can contribute to a healthier and happier life. We understand that, at times, the affordable options may not always be the healthiest due to higher fat, salt, and sugar (HFSS) content. However, we firmly believe that health is an invaluable investment we can’t afford to overlook.

In line with this, we would like to inform you that the UK Government has postponed the implementation of certain restrictions related to HFSS foods. This decision is due to the current rise in the cost of living, and the government aims to offer consumers more flexibility in their choices during this economically challenging time.

The planned restrictions on multi-buy HFSS deals will now be delayed by another two years, making the new commencement date October 2025 for England. This extension is intended to allow the Government time to evaluate the impact of such restrictions on the overall cost of living, particularly given the ongoing global economic turbulence.

Moreover, the restrictions that would prevent HFSS adverts from being broadcast on TV prior to 9pm and limit paid-for online adverts have also been postponed. Instead of coming into effect in January 2023, these restrictions are now expected to be enforced from January 2024. This decision was influenced by the delay in the Health and Care Bill receiving Royal Assent and the increasing awareness that the industry requires more time to adapt to these changes.

At ABL Health, we remain committed to supporting you to navigate these changing landscapes, assisting you to make the best possible decisions for yours, and your families health.

Together, we can work towards a healthier, happier life.
